We like to compare our ‘life-affirming’ show to the powerhouse production of The Vagina Monologues! Written by Eve Ensler in 1996, the cult and now worldwide The Vagina Monologues is ready for the next step with A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant and A Prayer.
A Memory A Monologue A Rant and A Prayer
Say hello to A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant and A Prayer, a groundbreaking collection of monologues by world-renowned authors and playwrights. Each diverse voice rises up in a collective roar to break open, expose and examine the insidiousness of violence at all levels: brutality, neglect, a punch, even a put-down.
The volume features such authors and topics as: Edward Albee on S&M; Maya Angelou on women’s work; Patricia Bosworth on her own physically abusive relationship; Jane Fonda on reclaiming our Mojo and many more.
For one night only, in aid of women for Women International and V-Day, there will be an inspired, crackling 90 minute performance. It will feature five to ten monologues from the collection at the Lyric Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue in London.
This will be a passionate, visceral, and thought-provoking production, with artistic and creative contributions from prominent talent in the world of acting, art and music. Tony Award winning playwright, performer, and activist Eve Ensler will be performing her monologue, Fur is Back, along with actresses Meera Syal from Goodness Gracious Me, renowned actress and producer Trudie Styler and Olivia Williams.
26th March 2012, 7:30pm.
A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant and A Prayer is a Lauren Prakke and Michelle Yue production. Directors so far engaged include contemporary artist Jake Chapman, Chris
Dercon (Director of Tate Modern) and Iwona Blazwick OBE (Director of Whitechapel Gallery).
The monologues are funny, angry, heartfelt, tragic, and beautiful. But above all, together they create a true and profound portrait of how violence against women
affects every one of us.
Fantastically, every penny raised through ticket sales will be matched and donated to V-Day, Women for Women International and other charities working against violence against women. All performers and directors will be participating free of charge, and all costs have been sponsored.
This is BOUND to sell out so we’d recommend getting your voice heard and your tickets bought straight away! Get your tickets.
