Australian burlesque has been showing some amazing talent in various homage’s to pop culture. Here’s the scoop on a few of our favourite burlesque shows that have even reached Burlexe’s ears.

We’re celebrating Australia Day 2012 the only way we know how. We’re sharing our favourite new burlesque trend that has seen Australians turning out in their droves. Get your geek chic on with these lovely ladies.
Star Wars

Jaded Vanities are the creators of the wildly successful Jaded Vanities do Star Wars Burlesque which performed yesterday (25th January) in Melbourne. The burlesquer dancers parody heroes and villains from the sci fi epic. The plot of their Star Wars burlesque show is:
A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…
It is a period of civil war.
The empire has grown powerful and crushed the spirits of the people.
In a last ditch effort the rebels and Jedi are using their sensual powers in the long forgotten arts of burlesque to infiltrate the empire’s base in Newtown, known to the locals as The Vanguard.
We ask for your help in restoring freedom to the galaxy…
The geek godess burlesque troupe perform solo routines and in groups of three. The show sees amazing costumes, swishing lightsabers and a chained Princess Leia satire. You can get an idea of how this unusual adaptation translates on stage by watching this video:

Batman Burlesque

Gotham Fatale is a geek, tongue-in-cheek take on burlesque. The performers taking on the personas of Batman villains. Elise Archer adapts the sinister Harley Quinn and Evelyn Ellenor plays the fiery haired temptress Poison Ivy.
In the Batman plot, the pair befriend each other. Poison Ivy even gives Harley Quinn immunity to poisons and toxins. Sexy.
The make up and costumes show how much dedication goes into bringing these characters to burlesque life. Their burlesque show has performed in Brisbane and Melbourne, so far. To find out more about this pair watch their introductory video:
