This year sees the 50th anniversary of the iconic Cleopatra motion picture starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. While Helena Bonham Carter and Dominic West are also starring in an upcoming biopic. We’re celebrating by sharing the secrets of this Miss Betsy Rose photoshoot.
Egyptian glamour is nothing new to burlesque outfits. The godess, Isis and her wings are a common sight in burlesque clubs. So, what better way to evoke classic showgirl style, Hollywood glamour and modern elegance than following Elizabeth Taylor and Miss Betsy Rose’s lead. Get the Cleopatra look for the stage, the boudoir or just for fun.
Get started with your burlesque beauty by trying some burlesque eye make-up. Add some bold blue to match the screen siren or update it a la Chanel’s Singapore Cruise this year. Ombré everything is also in in in! Get ombré lips with this two-tone metallic finish.

Amanda Caroline made all the head pieces and supplied the fabulous jewellery for this photoshoot. She creates bespoke millinery and bridal headpieces alongside burlesque items and vintage jewellery.
A great place to hunt down one-off items of jewellery is vintage shops. Scarlet Rage Vintage is one of our favourites. Another is Burlique, the London burlesque boutique.
Go big or go home. Mix and match your vintage pieces with some attention grabbing accessories. Baobab Tree Jewellery has created some wonderful Isis earrings. Add this surprisingly affordable Marc Jacobs gold cuff bracelet. Then complete this burlesque outfit by snapping up a slithering snake gold bracelet.
Take a step on the Egyptian side with some strappy gold sandals. For foot bling you can check out Debehams again with their sparkly heels.
