Longterm friends and supporters of Burlexe and Boylexe, the Burlesque Map London has arrived in its latest incarnation – a fine proposition it is too covering every aspect of the genre from performers to festivals to stores to every London burlesque show currently known. We spoke to Burlesque Map creator James Drury for the lowdown…

What is the Burlesque Map?
Burlesque Map is a complete lifestyle guide to burlesque, featuring: places to stay, eat, drink, shop, travel and of course the many shows, clubs, events, places of tuition and related services.

Who’s behind it?
Burlesque Map London is published by PictureRama, a photography and graphic design agency, who have been following niche cultural lifestyle and travel activities for the past 25 years.

How and why did it begin?
Burlesque Map was conceived in 2007. After considerable effort and research throughout 2008, the Burlesque Map London – premier edition – appeared early in 2009…

What’s the value of being included?
Being included in the Burlesque Map immortalises your presence in time and culture in print…

Who’s been featured?
It’s a long list: Abi Collins, Benjamin Louche, Miss Betsy Rose, Miss Bruise Violet, Bunny Pistol, Chrys Columbine, Coco Deville, Colette Collerette, Colette Collerette & Willy, Dave The Bear, Delores Deluxe, Divine Miss Em, Miss Dolly Rose, Domino Barbeau, Elsie Diamond, Signorina Fabialosa, Miss Giddy Heights, Jolie Papillon, Khandie Khisses, The Kitten Club, Lady Alex, Legs Malone, Lou on the Rocks, Mister Meredith, Marnie Scarlet, Millie Dollar, RedSarah, Reuben Kaye, Sophia St. Villier, Tabitha Taboo, Tana Karo, Tango Manga, Tempest Rose, The Folly Mixtures, The Late Night Shop Cabaret, The Vivid Angel, Trixee Sparkle, Veronica Blacklace, Vicky Butterfly, Whisky Falls, Xarah von den Vielenregen…

What’s the story with the new issue?
This year, 2014, Burlesque Map Issue 3 has run in two editions (of the same issue) that turned out to be almost completely different. This has been a new development. It happened because several of our advertisers in the first edition were running events that expired before the end of 2013. As each issue has a lifespan of around 18 months it meant that a second edition made sense…

What are the plans for 2014?
This year (and next) we plan to take Burlesque Map on tour and abroad – to find out more about what the rest of Europe has to offer a Burlesque tourist and cultural explorer. We aim to explore deeper into dark cabaret and steampunk…!!
