A production of Gypsy A Musical Fable is coming to Cheltenham. Who can turn down more Gypsy Rose Lee?
Gypsy A Musical Fable
The Cheltenham Operatic and Drama Society are bringing the play Gypsy to The Playhouse, Cheltenham from 21st – 28th January. The play has been inspired by the memories of the famous burlesque dancer, Gypsy Rose Lee.
The life of Gypsy Rose Lee and this story have been re-enacted on Broadway many times over. A similar production concludes on January 15 at Bristol Riverside Theatre in Philadelphia.
This stage production follows the life of Mama Rose. She’s a notoriously ambitious woman who’s trying to push her daughters, June and Louise, towards vaudeville stardom. She postpones her marriage to Herbie, to focus her attention on putting June centre stage.
Eventually everyone leaves Mama Rose and Louise but their dreams come true as she is transformed into Gypsy Rose Lee. As she once said, “This is my present, you know. My present from Mother.”
We all love a theatrical burlesque show and re-visiting the story of Gypsy. Shall we enjoy the famous cinematic moment of ‘You Gotta Get a Gimmick‘ once again?
