James Bond stars Daniel Craig and Dame Judi Dench made this video to raise awareness about gender inequality for International Women’s Day 2012 (8 March). It’s a powerful must-see online video.

This video sees 007 in his characteristic suit. He leaves the frame and returns to the spotligh, as a woman. In the meantime Judi Dench’s narrative lists the statistical inequalities between the genders.

These statistics have been heard many times before but this simple video makes them really hit home. It takes a serious look at the reality of a character like James Bond when he’s put in the real world.

A good effort by the pair but a lot more needs to be done before there’s equality even in the UK, as the video shows. As Judi Dench asks, “Are we equals? Until the answer is ‘yes’, we must never stop asking.”
