In the spirit of new starts and looking forward, we spoke to Miss Glory Pearl who gave us her take on what’s next for burlesque dancing in this new decade. Happy New Years indeed!

“It’s getting more and more popular so I think several things will happen to it,” Miss Glory Pearl told Burlexe.
“It’ll become diluted and become more mainstream and sanitised following the Christina Burlesque movie. So you’ll get a hundred million girls who’ll decide they want to become burlesque dancers and there will be courses springing up all over the place.
“But I also think the scene will diversify further and you’ll start to get more themed nights and it’ll polarise into different subcultures. One of the things that I think is exciting about burlesque is that it feeds so many subcultures.
“It’s got links with transvestitism, drag and the transgender community. It’s also got links with the fetish community, the circus community, mainstream theatre and dance obviously. I suspect it will start to diversify along those lines.”
Burlexe is a sensational London burlesque show inspired by the women who created the genre and perform the art. It fuses burlesque performance with storytelling, dancing with acting.
We look to burlesque, the resurgence of burlesque dancing and stories of burlesque dancers. Miss Glory Pearl and burlesque’s future are some such sources.
