Mad Men Return

Mad Men shimmied itself back onto UK screens this week with a double bill and we were ready and waiting, cocktail in hand. It was a return to everything we love about the show: the inappropriate daytime drinking, the advertising jargon, the clothes and most importantly Joan’s wiggle!

The Mad Men Return!!

Its been well over a year since the last episodes and the UK we know has changed in that twelve months. We’re still looking to a more glamorous time but opportunities are getting better, high street spending has increased and we’re more positive. By the end of the Mad Men season, will we want to look to a nostalgic past, one that may be no longer relevant to us?

Who are we kidding? Of course we’ll still watch it, they’ve just introduced The Civil Rights Movement to the show and its simmering conflict in and outside Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce’s doors. We’d also keep watching if only to keep wishing Joan becomes queen of the universe!

This week’s episodes focused on Peggy and an office joke taken to heart. We also had the interesting contrast of Joan and Megan, described by The Guardian as the, “Married ‘sex kitten’ who’s got herself a career she never asked for and no interest in kids and oh, the married “sex kitten” who has a child she never asked for and a career she has no interest in losing.”

Megan’s rise to power within the office and her utter destruction at the comments of new husband Don Draper means the series will yet again keep us guessing. At the party, they seemed the perfect couple, Megan performs the Sophia Loren track ‘Zou Bisou Bisou’ to a devoted crowd and her seemingly adoring husband looks on.

This season is going to be really really interesting…

Next episode Sky Atlantic Tuesday, 9pm.
