Moreover, Gwendoline Lamour notes influences from such Hollywood heroines as Lauren Bacall and Hedy Lamarr. Though, she has become influential herself within the industry by being at the forefront of the burlesque revival and she hasn’t taken her role lying down… Ahem.
Gwendoline Lamour is also known as a burlesque teacher. She said, “When I teach fan and burlesque dancing I always stress the importance of posture and elegance in the performance of classic burlesque. If you don’t have stage training it is advisable to get some: take acting and dancing classes, ballet is great for posture, strength and elegance.
“Also take the time to understand the history of the art-form. If you haven’t heard of or seen Lili St. Cyr, Faith Bacon, Sally Rand et al look them up! It’s so easy now that everything is on youtube! Most of all – be yourself and discover your own burlesque alter-ego!”
Last we heard, Gwendoline Lamour was completing her PhD and preparing for Burlesque on Ice which will arrive in February 2014. Until then, enjoy her signature burlesque dancing routine, The Crystal Shoe:
