Jo Weldon is a pioneer of neo-burlesque, a burlesque teacher and of course a wonderful burlesque performer. We could all learn a thing or two from this wonderful burlesque dancer…
This is How You Burlesque… Jo Weldon
Jo ‘Boobs’ Weldon is one of the most recognisable burlesque teachers in the world. She’s the founder of the New York School of Burlesque and has enlisted the crème de la crème of burlesque among her fellow teachers. Including the likes of Calamity Chang.
Jo Weldon began her burlesque career in the 1990s and after 20 years in the industry she has many women (and men) among her alumni. Though she has voiced concerns about burlesque’s future.
The New York Headmistress has also shared her brand of backstage wisdom in The Burlesque Handbook. For the price of a burlesque class you can learn all the essential skills. From twirling nipple tassels to making them, this book is a must-have on every burlesque dancer’s shelf.
Not to mention her three, THREE, how-to burlesque DVDs. There’s hours of tips for you to get to grips with. Whether it’s Striptease for Burlesque, Exotic Dance and Every Day, Honey & Spice: Sensual & Fierce Burlesque or Silk & Feathers: Burlesque Fan Dance, there’s something for everyone.
She’s not just an award-winning teacher with Best Teacher and Mentor in her pocket. Jo Weldon also has Best Bump N Grinder and Biggest Cougar in Burlesque, just to name a few accolades.
You can see Jo Boobs (above) performing her tribute to Gypsy Rose Lee and enjoy a few more reasons why she’s so beloved in the industry with her 50th birthday celebrations. There are few women around as well equipped, for us to learn from. For that we salute you lovely lady!
