Cyd Charisse

In all the excitement of yesterday’s International Women’s Day, we didn’t have time to celebrate the birthdate of one of the most inspiring women of all. The enchanting and glorious Cyd Charisse!

Just because… Cyd Charisse

A trained ballerina with the Russe Ballet, Charisse danced with both Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly. Described by Astaire as ‘beautiful dynamite’, Charisse said of the two stars, “They were the two greatest dancing personalities who were ever on the screen.

“Each has a distinctive style. Each is a joy to work with. But it’s like comparing apples and oranges. They’re both delicious.”

Charisse died in 2008 but is a constant in the inspiration notes of many top burlesque dancers. She is often famously remembered for her role in Bandwagon which you can google (check out the Micheal Jackson re-mix too!) but we’d love you to watch one of our favourites from the 1957 movie Silk Stockings

Cyd Charisse, a pair of silk stockings and an almost censor-happy reverse strip…
