The American singer Lana Del Rey is known for her OTT style. In her latest video, ‘National Anthem’, she gives a nod to 60s glamour and iconic American history.

After the hugely successful debut single of Lana Del Rey, ‘Video Games‘, we couldn’t wait to see what she did next. Labelling herself “Hollywood sadcore”, we were sure to expect some eerily decadent scenes and we weren’t disappointed.
Lana Del Rey’s latest single ‘National Anthem’ has just been released. The video launches with a black and white homage to Marilyn Monroe singing ‘Happy Birthday Mr President’.
If the clarity of hindsight didn’t allude to the tragic demise of a beloved American figure then it soon slaps you with it. The video hints at the assassination of former president, John F. Kennedy and Lana Del Rey is transformed into a Jackie O figure. Screams of foreboding underpin scenes of 60s domestic bliss.
Lana Del Rey as a 60s mother comes off very January Jones in Mad Men. She’s all glamour and cigarettes hanging from her notoriously plump lips. Well we love it.
The video ends with spoken word not heard on the album and the inevitable assassination of her music video hubby, A$AP Rocky. What do you think of the video?
Check her out in the photograph of Ellen Von Unwerth.
