Burlesque History – Inspired by Chiqui Love
Our London burlesque shows are a mixture of story, dance and song inspired by the herstory of showgirls. The live shows peek behind the curtain and the women therein.
There are monologues inspired both by the women who defined the genre and those refining it today. One such woman in modern burlesque dancer, Chiqui Love.
This bubbly, sassy and scintillating lady discusses the obstacles of women currently performing in the art form. This includes venue closures and reductionist media representation.
Getting the right attention in this industry can be tough and it has certainly given her (and others) mixed feelings. It is, however, clear that she loves her job and how it allows her to express herself.
Watch her feisty response to the trials and tribulations of being a vintage girl in a modern world. Plus, there’s a lovely insight into how she stands out as a modern burlesque dancer.
Burlexe Burlesque Team
British actress and Burlexe bestie, Chloe Ewart has been with us from the start. She performed in our very first burlesque show dontchaknow.
In our live performances, Chloe Ewart is the emotional heart of the show. This burlesque history film is no different.
To achieve the modern burlesque dance wear look we got this bomber jacket from a vintage market at The Big Red pub. Plus, this bikini set from the always lovely Playful Promises.
We’d also like to say a big thank you to the lovely Neil Charlwood for his mad filming and editing skills. Alongside, our wonderful stylist, Holly Symmons, and hair and makeup magic from Sue Michael of Novel Beings.
