Sadly the beloved godmother of neo-burlesque, Dixie Evans passed away prior to Dixie Evans Week.
Dixie Evans Week
On the 3rd August 2013, Dixie Evans sadly passed away. Currently, the money that has been raised will go towards covering outstanding accommodation and medical bills for Dixie Evans. Dixie Evans Week will still go ahead to honour the famed burlesque dancer. A new goal is being revised but if you have any questions e-mail info@dixieevansweek.com.
Burlesque legend, Dixie Evans has given so much to the industry it wanted to give back. They planned Dixie Evans Week for August 26th to September 1st 2013, marking the burlesque dancer’s birthday.
Shows and classes are taking place across the world to support ‘The Marilyn Monroe of Burlesque’. Following Dixie Evan’s stroke in January 2013, these events were being held to support her and the care she needs.
You can lend your support by donating on You Care or follow Dita Von Teese‘s lead by making an Ebay auction and donate the funds received. All funds raised in the Dixie Evans Week Drive were deposited into an account to cover Dixie’s cost of living and medical expenses.
You can still attend one of the many events. If there isn’t a show already happening near you then organise one by e-mailing Angie@pontanisisters.com or teach a class by e-mailing Jo Weldon, headmistress@schoolofburlesque.com.
There was also the option of sending your support to the woman herself with some meaningful snail mail to Dixie Evans, P.O. Box 1437, Las Vegas, NV 89125.
Follow Dixie Evans Week on Facebook and use #DixieWeek on Twitter (ooh and now FB too). We’ll keep you updated on any new plans and let us know what you’re doing on Facebook and Twitter.
