For me, stripping was an unusual kind of escape. I had nothing to escape but privilege, but I claimed asylum anyway. At twenty-four, it was my last chance to reject something and become nothing… I wanted to terrify myself. Mission accomplished.
Diablo Cody Wisdom
In Diablo Cody’s 2006 book, Candy Girl, the former stripper documented her experiences whilst developing her skills as a writer. Originally designed as a blog, a random meeting with a producer led to a book deal.
After more fate and hard work collided, her screenplay Juno starring Ellen Page and Michael Cera, went supernova eventually earning Cody an Academy Award.
From blogger to Oscar winner in a few years… There’s hope yet, yes?
