What’s your Burlexe story: I’m currently at a bit of a career cross-roads, celebrating all that I’ve achieved in my seven years as a burlesque performer and evaluating where to go next. Burlexe is a nice way to underline the performance works I’ve spent years developing and honing.
Burlesque highlight? Dancing at the small venue where Freddie Mercury filmed the music video for ‘Living On My Own’. It felt like I was dancing with ghosts. The venue had a history of some very rock and roll past guests, including legends like Mick Jagger and David Bowie.
The tree prop has since been relocated away from the side of the bar, and some of the flowers have been replaced, but it’s the very same prop.
How/Why did you get into burlesque: Long story. It was some kind of maths formula:
Punk Rock Cultural theory

Rockabilly
Top burlesque tip for non-burlesquers: Burlesque is as much about the energy of the acts as it is about technique. Don’t just expect dance moves; expect an atmosphere of celebration, strength and individuality too.
What’s next? I’ve recently found myself more inspired by the art world than burlesque. I’d like to rethink the works I perform within an arts context. I want to add depth to the pieces I dance, even if I merely distil the theoretical background that inspired the piece from the act’s execution, writing up an accompanying text about the whys and the whats of each of my acts. These texts may not become available to the public but they’ll help me remember why the acts I make are relevant. Sometimes my motivations and inspirations for creating a performance get buried beneath the surface veneer of rhinestones and body lines. I need to remove the polish and get back to the rawness that inspired my performances in the first place.
Nobody knows that burlesque… is the reason why I own a tube of veterinarian lubricant (for foaling etc.).

Burlexe is a sensational London burlesque show inspired by the women who created the genre and perform the art. It fuses burlesque performance with storytelling, dancing with acting.
We look to influential and successful women as our inspiration and Beatrix Von Bourbon burlesque dancing is certainly one such source.
