Our wonderful and wondrous burlesque guru, Jo King answers: what is burlesque? Goodtime Mama Jojo discuss’ whether burlesque is just stripping.
What is Burlesque with Jo King
The founder of the London Academy of Burlesque, Jo King has more than 30 years of experience in the industry. In the past 12 years alone there have been more than 10,000 women who have attended the London Academy of Burlesque. Yowser!
Goodtime Mama Jojo has taught and choreographed over 30 percent of Europe’s professional cabaret and burlesque performers. They include some of our favourite ladies such as Bettsie Bon Bon, Liberty Sweet, Exotic Luna Rosa and Immodesty Blaize.
Moreover Jo King has supported Burlexe since our very first theatrical London burlesque show. She has performed burlesque dancing on our stage and we have a burlesque monologue dedicated to our favourite British burlesque legend.
It’s no wonder then that when we were interviewing burlesque performers about what burlesque means that she was top of our list. In true Jo King style she made her own spin on the question. In our latest burlesque video our guru discuss’ whether burlesque is just stripping.
Since the dawn of neo-burlesque, the art form has been evolving. Goodtime Mama Jojo stresses the importance of remembering where it came from. What do you think?
We’ve also created our very own video that answers: what is burlesque? The Burlexe cast have reunited for the Burlexe burlesque films and to drop some knowledge on ya. Enjoy!
