We’re sharing this Dirty Martini burlesque body image video to open up a discussion about body image and burlesque.
We believe that burlesque is the perfect forum for women to reclaim their pedestal. It’s a celebration of womanhood in all its variety and glory, wink. We like to think that it goes some way towards busting the media myth about how women want to and should look. And we don’t think it’s just us.
This outlook has been portrayed right across the burlesque dancing industry. Our muse and poster girl, Rubyyy Jones has portrayed her body confidence in our naughty, nude photoshoot. Fans also celebrated the voluptuous female form at Burlesque Hall of Fame Weekend 2013.
Few women represent this more than New York burlesque dancer, Dirty Martini. She’s a beloved icon of burlesque. Fans vote for her year on year in 21st Century Burlesque’s 50 best burlesque dancers. She has now hit the top spot in 2009, 2010, 2011 AND 2012.
Not only is Dirty Martini an amazingly talented burlesque dancer but she has also become a pin-up for curvaceous women everywhere. And we can see why. Whether she’s modelling for Chanel, touring with Strip Strip Horray! or representing as a reigning Miss Exotic World, her energy, glamour and confidence is felt.
