London Burlesque Show
Liz Simon is art director for our London burlesque show, Burlexe. Here’s her story and take on the show.
What is your role within Burlexe? I take care of the Burlexe troupe’s overall look. I style the girls, buy them jewellery. I source and buy props, glue sequins onto anything possible. Plus, I make sure hair and make-up is looking fabulous at all times.
How did you get involved in our London burlesque show? I have known the show’s creator, Howard Wilmot, for 200 years we are good friends and love to laugh, a lot…
Why did you get involved with our burlesque evenings? At first I thought Howard meant for me to have a go at burlesque before I realised he meant, helping him with the project. I’ve been searching for a creative outlet for ages and I knew it would be fun and exciting to do.
What did you do before Burlexe? I’m currently the Photo editor of Psychologies magazine. I art direct and style shoots, cast models, work with great photographers and images. We shot Dita Von Teese for the cover in LA – see the connection folks.
What has our London burlesque show brought into your life? Endless amounts of pink and black clothes and accessories. Don’t tell Mama Jo but I put her whip to good use last weekend!
What do you like best about Burlexe? The team, all the women involved give what seems an effortless amount of effort. Everyone works together really well. I love being around the talent. We’re all girls together backstage and I love seeing them shine.
Anything you want to add? If it’s hot pink, it’s Burlexe!
